  Genesis Mission Project Selected for Funding

  Our multi-institutional project has been selected for the inaugural round of the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission.
  
  The project will use AI to identify new observables that maximize sensitivity to the nuclear matter equation of state (EOS) and improve the extraction of nuclear matter properties from heavy-ion collision data. The collaboration brings together researchers from Duke University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, UC Davis, and Michigan State University. The scientific concept directly advances my research program at FRIB to constrain the EOS, and I will lead the MSU component of the project.

  APS selects Agnieszka Sorensen as one of Outstanding Referees

  Agnieszka Sorensen receives 2023 APS Dissertation Award in Nuclear Physics

  "For an innovative approach to study the speed of sound in dense nuclear matter using moments of baryon distributions and developing of a framework of simulations and modeling of QCD phases and transitions in nucleus-nucleus collisions."

  Brookhaven National Laboratory Newsroom: RHIC/AGS Users' Meeting Emphasizes Diverse Workforce Opportunities

  "Many of the nuclear physicists tuning in to the 2022 Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) & AGS (Alternating Gradient Synchrotron) Users’ Meeting participated in a half-day workshop on June 8 dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and workforce development in the nuclear physics community. The June 8 DEI session brought together scientists who are enthusiastic about ensuring the community’s role in sustaining a pipeline of researchers from underrepresented communities."

  DOE Office of Nuclear Physics Science Highlight: Measuring the Speed of Sound in Dense Nuclear Matter

  "Nuclear physicists proposed a method to measure the speed of sound characterizing matter created in nuclear collisions. The suggested method of measurement uses fluctuations in numbers of detected particles. These fluctuations are known as “cumulants,” and measurements of cumulants may reveal the behavior of the speed of sound in heavy-ion collisions."
